Wavelet analysis of coarsening during unstable MBE growth

چکیده
We present a wavelet analysis of coarsening of mounds during molecular beam epitaxy. The advantage in using wavelets over Fourier analysis is that one can track the coarsening process in both, location (direct space) and frequency (or scale) space at the same time. The wavelets concise scale decomposition allows the discrimination of the coarsening process, i.e. tracking coarsening at different scales. q 2005 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

متن کاملCoarsening process in one-dimensional surface growth models
Surface growth models may give rise to unstable growth with mound formation whose tipical linear size L increases in time (coarsening process). In one dimension coarsening is generally driven by an attractive interaction between domain walls or kinks. This picture applies to growth models where the largest surface slope remains constant in time (corresponding to model B of dynamics): coarsening...
متن کاملCoarsening of Surface Structures in Unstable Epitaxial Growth
We study unstable epitaxy on singular surfaces using continuum equations with a prescribed slope-dependent surface current. We derive scaling relations for the late stage of growth, where power law coarsening of the mound morphology is observed. For the lateral size of mounds we obtain ξ ∼ t1/z with z≥4. An analytic treatment within a self–consistent mean– field approximation predicts multiscal...
متن کاملMechanisms of mound coarsening in unstable epitaxial growth
Corner diffusion is shown to play a crucial role in determining the asymptotic mound coarsening exponent n in the case of unstable epitaxial growth on (001) and (111) surfaces. For the case of island-relaxation without corner diffusion the asymptotic exponent is found to satisfy n.1/4. However, when rapid cornerdiffusion is allowed, the coarsening exponent is found to approach 1/3. An explanati...

We consider a class of unstable surface growth models, ∂tz = −∂xJ , developing a mound structure of size λ and displaying a perpetual coarsening process, i.e. an endless time increasing of λ. The coarsening exponents n, defined by the growth law of the mound size λ with time, λ ∼ t, were previously found by numerical integration of the growth equations [A. Torcini and P. Politi, Eur. Phys. J. B...
